FREE Visual Literacy Teacher Resources from the creators of World Literacy Day… Spellodrome!
We are delighted to report that Spellodrome (the creators behind World Literacy Day) have recently launched a set of groundbreaking FREE Visual Literacy Teacher Resources. These resources have been designed to cover all age-groups between 4-18yrs and are intended for use all around the world. They have included images and themes from our charity partner, UNICEF, to bridge the subjects of literacy, visual literacy and values education.
As technology advances and society becomes more digital, children are getting exposed more and more frequently (and at younger ages) to images, making the need for visual literacy more and more important as time goes on. In turn, these children are also exposed to these increased images in a less controlled manner than before.
Visual literacy is the ability to interpret, negotiate, and make meaning from information presented in the form of an image, extending the meaning of literacy, which commonly signifies interpretation of a written or printed text. Visual literacy is based on the idea that pictures can be “read” and that meaning can be communicated through a process of reading. (Source: Wikipedia)
To accompany these resources, Spellodrome is also offering a special FREE TRIAL offer.. click here to sign up for this free trial today!

Perfecting Our World Education Games Skills in Singapore!
Hello again everyone! Ambassador Max Naylor coming to you from Singapore.
Lately, everyone in my school has been going on to the World Education Games to practice!
It shows me that they want to be the best of the best when the World Education Games events take placet! Everyone here is loving warm up and the games haven’t even started! Last week, at my school here in Singapore, we celebrated Uniting Nations week. This is when we come together as an international community of learners.
We celebrated our diversity by doing many things, such as: A Uniting Nations school carnival, Uniting Nations activities, an international food festival, and most of all, a huge parade of nations! In the parade of nations, the MC’s announce a certain country, and everyone from that country walks through the gym where our parade of nations took place. Sometimes, there was only one person from a country!
We have 69 nations represented in our school. This highlights just how multi-cultural Singapore is. My family is originally from Canada but our home is now in Singapore.
So, here in Singapore at the Canadian International School, kids from all over the world are warming up for the Games.
Well, that’s all for now. Good luck for the World Education Games everybody!
Getting ready… and excited!
I can’t wait for the World Education Games to start. I’ve really had fun doing it throughout the years and get a rush of excitement whenever our teachers hand out the slip with our usernames and passwords. I think our school has been doing this since I was I in second grade (just so you know that is 4 years).
I’ve always loved when I’m sitting next to a friend in class, to start the 3…..2……1……Now! Then clicking at the same time, hoping we were competing against each other. My best friend hates math. But she really likes World Math Day and I always like trying to compete against her. And sometimes we do. Then if either of us struck out, that person would go over and watch the other play and try to cheer them on.
I also love the feeling you get when you see your name on the Hall of Fame. And now I see everyone typing at the speed of light and synchronized clicking across the classroom, getting ready for an amazing event that is fun and exciting. Good luck everyone… it’s great fun!
Rajmata School Jodhpur Proudly Accepts The World Education Games Gold Medals and Certificates!
Hi, I am Daksh C from Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls Public School Jodhpur, India.
Right after the declaration of World Education Games results in March 2012, I used to ask my father everyday about my Gold Medals and Certificates. He told me to have patience as it would take some time to get the medals ready for so many kids around the world. After a long wait, I had almost forgotten about the Gold Medals and was busy in my routine studies.
Then on July 16, 2012, I got the biggest news! Our Principal Ma’m told my sister Poorvie about the receipt of World Education Games Gold medals and certificates.
The next day, July 17, a special assembly was organized in our school and Principal Ma’m Mrs. Neera Singh presented 2 Gold Medals and 3 Certificates to me for getting 3rd Rank in World Maths Day (1st Rank in India), 4th Rank in World Spelling Day (1st Rank in India) and 38th Rank in World Science Day (3rd Rank in India) in 4 – 7 Division.
It was the first occasion for me to get an award in front of my school and I was very much excited to get it from Principal Ma’m. All the students applauded for me and I felt myself on the top of the world.
My sister Poorvie also got her two certificates for getting 15th Rank in World Spelling Day (1st Rank in India) and 23rd Rank in World Maths Day (3rd Rank in India) in 8 -10 Division. It is a matter of pride for us that only I and my sister from the Indian State Rajasthan could make it to the Top 10 and Top 50 in the World Education Games 2012. Also I am the only kid to get 2 Gold Medals simultaneously for my country India.

Principal Ma’m informed the school assembly about our big achievements and motivated all the students to participate next year in the World Education Games. After the assembly, all my teachers, friends and other schoolmates congratulated me; they touched my shining Gold medals and were very much thrilled. I kept the medals wearing all the day during school time and even while returning home also. My parents were also very happy to see the medals and certificates.
On this happiest moment, I would like to thank my Principal Ma’m, all my school teachers especially Mr. J. P. Sir who helped in organizing the special assembly and taking so much pain otherwise also for encouragement of young talents in school, my parents, sister Poorvie, the almighty God for his blessings poured down on me and last but not the least, the World Education Games Team for their wonderful efforts for creating such games to unite the World.
Waiting eagerly for the World Education Games 2013! Till then let’s have fun and hard work along with practice, practice and practice!
Good bye!
