FREE Visual Literacy Teacher Resources from the creators of World Literacy Day… Spellodrome!

We are delighted to report that Spellodrome (the creators behind World Literacy Day) have recently launched a set of groundbreaking FREE Visual Literacy Teacher Resources.  These resources have been designed to cover all age-groups between 4-18yrs and are intended for use all around the world.  They have included images and themes from our charity partner, UNICEF, to bridge the subjects of literacy, visual literacy and values education.

As technology advances and society becomes more digital, children are getting exposed more and more frequently (and at younger ages) to images, making the need for visual literacy more and more important as time goes on.  In turn, these children are also exposed to these increased images in a less controlled manner than before.

Visual literacy is the ability to interpret, negotiate, and make meaning from information presented in the form of an image, extending the meaning of literacy, which commonly signifies interpretation of a written or printed text. Visual literacy is based on the idea that pictures can be “read” and that meaning can be communicated through a process of reading. (Source: Wikipedia)

Click here to access and download these FREE resources… we’re sure that you will find them invaluable in your classrooms.

To accompany these resources, Spellodrome is also offering a special FREE TRIAL offer.. click here to sign up for this free trial today!

Massachusetts Mathematics Madness!

Photos continue to pour into the World Education Games inbox – here is a great selection from O’Maley Innovation Middle School in Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA – sent in by Ms. Domohowski from the Grade 7 class.

Great photos guys – we’re keeping an eye out for you on the Hall of Fame!

Getting ready… and excited!

I can’t wait for the World Education Games to start. I’ve really had fun doing it throughout the years and get a rush of excitement whenever our teachers hand out the slip with our usernames and passwords. I think our school has been doing this since I was I in second grade (just so you know that is 4 years).

I’ve always loved when I’m sitting next to a friend in class, to start the 3…..2……1……Now! Then clicking at the same time, hoping we were competing against each other. My best friend hates math. But she really likes World Math Day and I always like trying to compete against her. And sometimes we do. Then if either of us struck out, that person would go over and watch the other play and try to cheer them on.

I also love the feeling you get when you see your name on the Hall of Fame. And now I see everyone typing at the speed of light and synchronized clicking across the classroom, getting ready for an amazing event that is fun and exciting.  Good luck everyone… it’s great fun!

Ambassador Ashley’s Last Post!

Hey, everyone!

Yes, this is my FINAL post on the World Education Games Blog! I’m going to miss the honor of being an ambassador, but the job has taught me various leadership skills. Thank you to my teachers who unanimously voted for me for this honorable position. Thank you to my friends and family for their love and support and thank you WEG Team for having this position for students to grow in their leadership skills.

Finally, thank you, readers, for taking your personal time to read my blog and all the other ambassadors’ as well. Congratulations to all of the winners and those who tried (when you try, you win-but when you don’t try, you fail). Congratulations, in advanced, to all the future ambassadors, winners, and participants. Good luck, future ambassadors!

Speaking of optimism, I just won 1st place in the girl’s category for an Oratorical speech on optimism, so I’ll be moving to the Zone level! If I pass the Zone level, I get into District where I may win a scholarship for my education of choice! Wish me luck!
Goodbye, good luck, and congratulations, superb students!
Best of luck,
Ambassador Ashley

Congratulations Mathletes!

Hello World! It’s been a week since the World Education Games were open and, on behalf of USA, congratulations to all the winners! Congratulations to top winners in all countries around the world. This year’s World Education Games were competitive, energetic, and full of fiery determination. It was a close call for many of the countries, students, and classes to get to 1st place, but we all tried our best and were rewarded for it.

Thank you for all the parents and teachers that have supported the students to make a memorable mark on the Games and the world. Congratulations to every individual who participated in the Games, and I hope that the medals, trophies, and certificates you receive will be a joyous event for you and your family. Hopefully next year, we will all have numerous victories like we have this year. I am at awe at the participation, determination, and excitement that was put in every game you all played, trying to do your very best. Again, congratulations to all the Raging Rookies, Junior Giants, Speed Demons, Almost Einsteins, and Human Calculators. Thank you supportive friends and family!

Congratulations To The Winners Of The World Education Games!
